LABORATORY/CONTACT SHEET

To do the “positivism” process, there must be two zones, the wet one and the dry one. What we first have to do is getting a contact sheet of our photographs.

To do this, we have to put in contact the negatives with the sheet of photograph paper. This one is sensitive to usual light, but not orange one (only illumination). We cut the negatives, choose one to prove the exposition time and put it against the sheet, covered with a glass.
We estimate the time by covering part by part in the negative, so there are zones which are exposed more time than others. (We can do it each 2 seconds).
To reveal it, we submerge the paper in the revealer, stopper, fixer and final washed. It is approximately one minute, 10 seconds, other minute and 20 seconds, respectively.
We dry the paper, and then we do the same with all the negatives, to do our contact sheet, using the time of exposure we find right according to the negative we have done before.
Now, we can do the ENLARGEMENT

ENLARGEMENT

We choose the picture we like the most, and firstly, we have to choose the time of exposure. We put the red filter in the enlarger machine, and cut a piece of paper to put in the surface. We retire the red filter and expose it for 3 seconds. With a black paper, we cover some space of the paper and expose other 3 seconds. Then we do the same, covering less space each time. After do it in the whole paper, we reveal it as said before. Then, the part of the picture we think has the best exposure corresponds with the time we have to use for the big picture.
And we obtain something like this,

LIGHTING

Next workshop we did was about lighting. Artificial lighting needs equipment such as diffusors, spots and flashes.
We have done 4 main exercises:
Hard light, having an only spot of light focusing on one side of the model, we measure with punctual mode the part of the model which is in light. Maintaining the measures, we take the picture and we get something like this:

If we use something to change the lighting trajectory, we obtain soft light effect. We can do it also in a cloudy day, so there are no hard shadows.

We can also play with background and silhouettes.
If we use punctual mode of measure, and measure the light of our model or subject, if there is a window with more light behind, it will appear even brighter.
If we use matrix mode of measuring light, it will appear the silhouette

This implies playing with overexposing and underexposing.

ANGLES

Depending of the highness in which we use the camera, there are three kind of pictures:
Low angle picture

High angle picture

Eye angle picture

PHOTOSHOP

One of the last workshops we had was about photoshop. Retouching pictures is also important for a photographer to obtain better results. We learned that it works with layers, and how to change colors, illumination, cloning, cutting and modifying the picture. But not only this, we learned how to do our contact sheet of digital photographs as well. This is the result:
1.
 2.
 3.
4.

5.

6.

7.

8.

(The small ones are the original ones, and the big ones, the retouched ones).
